The real reason wheat is toxic {it’s not the gluten}

(The Healthy Home Economist) The stories became far too frequent to ignore.

Emails from folks with allergic or digestive issues to wheat in the United States experienced no symptoms whatsoever when they tried eating pasta on vacation in Italy.

Confused parents wondering why wheat consumption sometimes triggered autoimmune reactions in their children but not at other times.

Farmer Finds Surprising Results When He Sends GMO Crop ‘Dust’ To Lab

Farmer advised to wear face mask for protection after sending GMO crop dust to lab.

It should come as no surprise that crop dust – that is, dirt and other contaminants that accumulate mostly during harvest season – is full of some questionable ingredients. What one farmer found when he sent some dust from his hog building outside his brother’s and father’s farms, where they grow Liberty Link and Roundup Ready corn, is a little more shocking.

GM Golden Rice: Miracle or Menace? Top Activists Speak Out

Supporters of genetically modified crops have a new darling to advocate, this time under the name "Golden Rice." Touted as a miracle for starving countries, the saffron colored rice is designed to prevent blindness caused by vitamin A deficiency. Once again, the crusade to promote yet more Frankenfare has scientists and mainstream media joining the ranks, lending so-called credibility to the product. Conveniently forgotten, however, are the solutions to hunger and illness which tend to be far superior economically, nutritionally and environmentally.

"We Will Drive a Stake Through the Heart of the DARK Act" — Blumenthal Joins Advocates In Push To Label Genetically Engineered Food

U.S. Sen. Richard Blumenthal joined advocates Thursday at the Hartford Farmer’s Market to urge support for the Genetically Engineered Food Right-To-Know Act.

The legislation, which was introduced in February, would require the Food and Drug Administration to clearly label genetically engineered foods “so that consumers can make informed choices about what they eat,” Blumenthal said.

Last month, the U.S. House passed H.R. 1599, which has been dubbed the DARK (Deny Americans the Right to Know) Act by its opponents. It passed the House by a vote of 275 to 150.

Incidence of Gluten Sensitivity Skyrocketing in the US—Are GMOs to Blame?

Gluten intolerance has reached epidemic proportions—a staggering 40 percent of the US population now suffers from it in one form or another. Celiac disease alone strikes 1 in every 133 Americans. Taking into account the fact that gluten sensitivity has risen sharply over the last twenty years, researchers and food safety advocates are looking at the role GMOs play in this this dramatic spike.

Action Alert: GMO Bans And Labeling Jeopardized By The Dark Act, Congress Voting This Week

TELL CONGRESS TO PROTECT YOUR RIGHT TO KNOW: OPPOSE THE DARK ACT

UPDATE: The U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture passed H.R. 1599 out of committee on Tuesday, July 14, 2015. Within hours, it was announced that the bill will go straight to the House floor, as early as next week, with no vote in the Energy and Commerce Committee.

New amendments to this bill would not only prohibit all labeling of GE foods, but also make it unlawful for states or local governments to restrict GE crops in any way.

Please contact your Representative today and urge them to oppose this anti-democratic bill.

Click here to sign the petition to your representatives.

Call your representatives directly and let them know you oppose the so-called "Safe and Accurate Food Labeling Act," otherwise known as the Dark Act.

The Big Sellout -- Majority of Organic Companies Owned by Mega Corporations

Mega conglomerates like Dean Foods, Coca Cola, Hain, Kraft, PepsiCo and Heinz have gobbled up most of the organic food industry, leaving little to spare -- spawning the term 'Big Organic.' These very same companies have a track record of destroying healthy food through industrial, genetically modified and conventional farming practices. The bottom line for these corporations -- profit, plain and simple. While they take their share of the $30 billion-a-year organic food industry, small and true organics are laid to waste.

'Monsanto's Dream': Pro-GMO DARK Act Comes to Congress

By Lauren Mc Cauley

(CommonDreams) Calling the legislation "diabolical and deceptive," critics of Pompeo's bill have vowed a fight.

The battle over genetically modified organisms, or GMOs, reached the U.S. capital on Wednesday when news broke that Kansas Republican Rep. Mike Pompeo will reintroduce a bill that blocks states from requiring GMO labeling.

Are GMOs Doomed on the Global Market?

Farmers in the U.S. are beginning to wake-up to the fact that genetically modified crops are poor business indeed. With countries around the world taking a firm stand against GM imports, not only are farmers who grow GMOs suffering from dwindling export opportunities, but also those whose crops have been cross-contaminated with genetically modified pollen.

Breaking: Report finds cancer deaths have doubled in Argentina's GMO growing regions

A new report by the Ministry of Health in Cordoba, Argentina, has documented a disturbing trend for those who live in areas where pesticide-intensive GM crops are grown -- specifically, a dramatic spike in cancer deaths.

The report covered five years of collected data. The average cancer deaths in the province is 158 per 100,000 individuals. And yet, four of the "Pampa Gringa" districts have much higher death rates -- between 216 and 230. "Pampa Gringa" is considered the premier agricultural region of the Cordoba province.

The Report on Cancer in Cordoba 2004-2009 is the official investigation which links the use of pesticides -- especially glyphosate -- to the staggering increase in cancer deaths.

12 ways to rid the planet of GMOs and Monsanto’s Roundup

(Eat Local Grown) It is now blatantly obvious that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) are nothing more than patented Pesticide Delivery Systems (PDS) designed to increase sales of poisonous agrochemicals such as Roundup, glufosinate, Bt, 2,4 D and neonicotinoids. To claim that GMOs are perfectly safe is equivalent to saying that pesticides, herbicides and fungicides—systemically laced at ever-higher levels into GMO-tainted human food and animal feed—are perfectly safe. And to make matters worse, hundreds of millions of pounds of Monsanto’s Roundup, the most widely used herbicide in the world, are now routinely sprayed on 160 different crops, just before harvest, including wheat, potatoes, oats, canola, flax, peas and dried beans. In other words, just about every non-organic item in your supermarket, or every item on your restaurant menu (bread, potatoes, meat, milk) is now tainted with Roundup.

GMOs encourage weight gain and obesity, researchers discover

Looking around, it's no secret that Americans are putting on the pounds unlike any other time in history. Sure, we can't discount sedentary lifestyles, processed foods and outrageous sugar consumption as contributing factors. At the same time, an elephant in the room is often overlooked -- one known as genetically modified food. Researches are beginning to connect the dots, realizing that the possibility of GMOs contributing to weight gain is not as far-fetched as once thought.

GMOs: respected analyst says they could destroy life on the planet

(Alliance for Natural Health) Nassim Nicholas Taleb is a scholar, statistician, Wall Street analyst and advisor, professor at New York University, and the bestselling author of Fooled by Randomness  and The Black Swan: The Impact of the Highly Improbable. He predicted the 2008 financial crisis by pointing out that commonly used risk models were wrong. (He was correct, and he became quite wealthy from the strategic financial decisions he made at that time.)

Now his analysis of our use of genetically modified organisms shows that GMOs could cause “an irreversible termination of life at some scale, which could be the planet.” Taleb and his two co-authors argue that calling the GMO approach “scientific” betrays “a very poor—indeed warped—understanding of probabilistic payoffs and risk management.”

Taleb believes GMOs fall squarely under the rule that we should always err on the side of caution if something is really dangerous. This is not just because of potential harm to the consumer, but because of systemic risk to the system, which in this case is the ecosystem that supports all life on the planet:

Your right to know what's in our food is under attack—again

The Grocery Manufacturers Association, along with allies like Monsanto and Dow, have teamed up with Koch-backed Congressman Mike Pompeo of Kansas on a federal bill that would deny your right to know what is in your food.

This bill, (HR 4432), which has been called the “Denying Americans the Right-to-Know Act” (DARK Act), would:

- Prevent states from adopting their own GE labeling laws.

- Block states from making it illegal to put a “natural” label on products that contain GE ingredients.

From Dave Matthews to Danny DeVito: Stars Show Why GMO Labeling is a No-Brainer in This Hilarious Video

The “Right to Know” whether our food is genetically modified is something that’s not afforded to us in America, despite the fact that labels on foods containing GMOs are mandated in 60+ countries around the world.

And while companies have begun voluntarily labeling them, there is much concern over whether they’re telling the truth (as this recent fiasco involving a popular tortilla chip company showed).

This November, voters in two key states, Colorado and Oregon, will decide whether or not to label GMOs in landmark votes.

Both campaigns are being badly outspent due to huge donations from Monsanto and Big Food, but Colorado in particular is getting hammered, with over $11 million spent to hide information from consumers about whether or not there are GMOs in their food so far, compared with just $441,000 on the pro-labeling side.

This popular oil could protect you from DNA damage caused by GMOs, researchers say

By Nick Meyer

(Alt Health Works) Genetically modified foods are easier to avoid in some countries that others, but the genetic contamination in the United States is so high right now that the odds say you’ll be consuming at least a small percentage of GMO material even if you always buy organic.

Soybeans and soy products are particularly high risk items since the vast majority of soy in the U.S. is genetically modified to withstand heavy doses of health-damaging agrochemicals, but there may be a way to protect damage from GMO soybeans according to a new study from a team of researchers in the UK, Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

According to the study, the always-popular extra virgin olive oil may reduce DNA damage caused by consuming genetically modified soybean products.

Protect yourself with the latest weapon against GMOs—smartphone technology

Consumers will soon have the power to conduct on the spot tests for a variety of poisons in their food -- including GMOs, nanoparticals, pesticides and bacteria. Using smartphone technology, along with a specialized cradle and app, researchers have developed a biosensor that identifies various toxins, bacteria, viruses, proteins and other molecules in mere seconds. With the pervasiveness of GMOs and other dangerous elements infiltrating our food supply at every turn, using modern technology to add another layer of protection against these hazards is a smart move.

As unbelievable as it may seem, the average person contends with an astounding amount of environmental pollutants on a daily basis. Prevent Disease drives the point home in the article, "Consumers Will Soon Have Devices In Their Hands To Detect GMO and Toxic Foods":

Incidence of gluten sensitivity skyrocketing in the U.S. — Are GMOs to blame?

Gluten intolerance has reached epidemic proportions -- a staggering 40 percent of the U.S. population now suffers from it in one form or another. Celiac disease alone strikes one in every 133 Americans. Taking into account the fact that gluten sensitivity has risen sharply over the last 20 years, researchers and food safety advocates are looking at the role GMOs play in this this dramatic spike.

The dynamics of food intolerance

When a person has a sensitivity, the body believes the ingested food is an 'invader' and embarks on a mission to destroy the irritating substance. Unfortunately, the microvilli in the small intestine are harmed in the attack and leaky gut syndrome develops. Because of this damage, the gut wall becomes overly permeable and molecules of food are inappropriately digested. These molecules then leach into the bloodstream and the body responds with inflammation. Food sensitivities and malabsorption issues soon follow. This sets the stage for a spectrum of disease from autism to irritable bowel syndrome to cancer.

Effective Immediately: France Bans All GMO Cultivation

(Activist Post) by Heather Callaghan

The French National Assembly has made a sweeping declaration with a new bill, effective immediately. No more genetically modified crops.

On Tuesday, the French lower house of parliament adopted a law immediately banning cultivation of any GMO corn, due to environmental safety concerns.

Recently, they also made a halt decree to prohibit planting the only GM crop allowed in the EU - Monsanto's MON810 corn, with built-in insect resistance.

Latest research - Scientists discover correlation between GMOs and leukemia

As if there isn't enough reason to avoid genetically modified food, new research has discovered GMOs are linked with leukemia and anemia. The study found that Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) used in bioengineered seeds has a substantial adverse effect on blood cells and bone marrow cell proliferation. Even at the lowest dose, the effects were deemed virulent to proper cell health.

Birth of Bt frankenfood

Bacillus thuringiensis is naturally found in the soil and has been used as a foliar insecticide since the late 1960s. Farmers spray their crops with the bacteria, insects consume it and their stomachs subsequently break open. However, use of the toxin didn't stop as a topical pesticide. As reported in the Natural News article "Rid the body of dangerous Bt-toxin found in genetically modified food with these tips":
